We help the enterprise cope with the complexity of day-to-day operations

Large corporations and government agencies face huge problems in managing the complexity of their projects. Big resource development, infrastructure, structural adjustment or logistics projects - indeed all the things that need project management - often contain seemingly intractable complexities that are not adequately addressed by traditional disciplines like operations research or traditional tools like linear programming. Tjurunga brings new thinking, new ideas, and new tools from the science of complexity and helps enterprises to re-engineer their day-to-day operations more efficiently and effectively. We offer a proven suite of advanced analytical tools developed from complexity research that produce superior results for these difficult problems.

We help the enterprise understand itself

All enterprises, whether in the public or private sectors, need to be flexible and agile to meet the challenges of today's fast-paced and uncertain world. The new thinking and new ideas emerging from the science of complexity provide insights into real-world 'messy' systems that defy understanding with the traditional approach of 'mechanical' science. Our pragmatic approach enables an enterprise to create growth opportunities by examining, questioning, and reformulating the ideas and assumptions that underlie every enterprise as a creative adaptive system. Our approach unlocks potential for organisations by showing them how to manage themselves as continuously evolving creative adaptive systems rather than as 'engineered' systems that assume predictable conditions. Tjurunga brings to Australia, for the first time, the tools of its partner, Santa Fe Associates International of Santa Fe Institute, New Mexico. These Diagnostics for Emergent Strategies enable an enterprise to discover and remove hidden barriers to adaptation and innovation - in products, services, relations to markets and customers, organisation, and strategy.

We help the enterprise explore and exploit emerging markets

The emergence of wholly new markets is one of the most profound consequences of our continually changing world. The problem is particularly acute in the area of natural resources and environment - established markets based on natural resources, such as water and gas, are being deregulated, and new markets, such as carbon and biodiversity, are emerging as the services provided to society by the ecosystem are first valued and then marketised. Such novel markets require novel responses from corporations wishing to enter a market and government agencies wishing to build a regulatory framework. The problems are complex and formidable. Tjurunga offers a pragmatic staged approach based on the science of complexity. We can develop conceptual frameworks for analysing the outcomes of single and multiple environmental services markets, and then develop prototype models and simulations to evaluate those frameworks to gain insight into emergent and possibly counterintuitive properties of the proposed markets. We can use advanced market design frameworks, and embody the operational market rules as enterprise-ready software systems. We can promote the sharing of knowledge/learnings to stimulate on-the-ground and market adoption of more holistic and better designed environmental services markets. We are able to offer, for the first time in Australia, the specialized services of our partner, Haight & Seymour plc of London, a commercial spin-off of the ELSE Centre at University College London who are the world leaders in applying sophisticated market design frameworks.
